  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Working through rib pain

Jansen told reporters Wednesday that he is dealing with rib pain on his left side that he tweaked during a workout, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. The injury factored into his performance against the Reds on Tuesday, when he gave up two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out one batter in one frame. He'll be shut down from throwing for the time being, but the veteran closer is hopeful to avoid a stint on the injured list. Reid Detmers and Ryan Zeferjahn are the top candidates to step up into high-leverage situations while Jansen is sidelined.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Dealing with possible injury

Jansen said after Tuesday's loss to the Reds that he's dealing with "something physical" but declined to disclose the nature of the issue, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. When asked if he would miss any time, Jansen said, "Just gonna take it day by day and see where we're at." Jansen took the loss against the Reds on Tuesday, allowing two earned runs on two hits and one walk while striking out one over one inning. Just 11 of his 22 pitches in the top of the ninth were thrown for strikes. Reid Detmers would be a candidate for saves should Jansen need to miss any action.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Rebounds with save Wednesday

Jansen notched a save against the Dodgers on Wednesday, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning. Jansen gave up a tiebreaking solo homer to Shohei Ohtani in the ninth frame Tuesday, breaking a 20-appearance scoreless streak. The veteran closer was right back on the mound against his former club Wednesday, this time with the task of protecting a one-run, ninth-inning lead. Jansen came through, retiring Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Will Smith on a combined 10 pitches. Jansen has now converted 23 of 24 save opportunities on the campaign, putting him on track for his highest save conversion rate since he went a remarkable 41-for-42 in save chances with the Dodgers in 2017.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Notches save against former team

Jansen earned a save against the Dodgers on Monday, striking out two batters in a perfect ninth inning. Jansen spent his first 12 big-league campaigns with the Dodgers, but that didn't give them any sort of advantage over him Monday. Rather, Jansen blew past the three hitters he faced with ease, needing just nine pitches (eight strikes) to retire the side in order and notch a pair of punchouts. The reigning AL Reliever of the Month has been downright dominant since mid-June; he hasn't given up any earned runs over his past 19 appearances spanning 19.1 innings while picking up eight saves and posting a 22:4 K:BB over that span. Jansen's 2.66 season ERA is on pace for his lowest mark since he registered a 2.22 ERA over 69 regular-season appearances in his final campaign with the Dodgers in 2021.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Collects 21st save

Jansen struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Saturday to record his 21st save of the season in a 7-4 win over the Tigers. The 37-year-old closer needed only 12 pitches (nine strikes) to dispatch the top of Detroit's order. Jansen hasn't given up an earned run since June 15, posting a 0.67 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB in 19.1 innings over that stretch to go along with his pristine ERA, and on the season he's 21-for-22 in converting save chances, his best rate since he went an incredible 41-for-42 with the Dodgers in 2017.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Notches win

Jansen (4-2) picked up the win Sunday against the White Sox, allowing one hit and one walk during a scoreless ninth inning. He didn't record a strikeout. Jansen pitched in the top of the ninth frame with the score tied 5-5. He wound up with the victory after Taylor Ward swatted a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom half. Jansen has been excellent since the start of July, having allowed merely five hits and one walk over 12.1 scoreless innings. He's struck out 13 batters during that stretch and has nabbed a pair of wins and five saves. He has 20 saves this season.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Records 20th save Tuesday

Jansen picked up the save in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Rangers, allowing one hit and no walks in a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out one. The save was Jansen's 20th of the season, and he hasn't given up an earned run since his June 15 outing in Baltimore. Since then, the veteran right-hander has a 0.61 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB covering 16.1 innings as the Angels' closer. Jansen has been a rumored trade candidate ahead of Thursday's deadline, and it remains to be seen how a potential move might affect his fantasy value.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Secures 19th save

Jansen picked up the save Monday against the Rangers. He allowed no hits or walks while striking out one over 1.1 innings. Jansen earned a four-out save with little trouble Monday, retiring Josh Smith to end the eighth inning before setting down the side in order in the ninth inning to seal the victory. The veteran closer has been dominant in July, giving up just three hits and no earned runs while recording 12 strikeouts, two wins and four saves across 10 outings. The 37-year-old may be past his prime, but Jansen has been a steady presence in the back end of the Angels' bullpen in 2025.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Strikes out two for save

Jansen struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Mariners. Jansen sat down Julio Rodriguez, Cal Raleigh and Josh Naylor on a combined 10 pitches (nine strikes) to earn his 18th save of the year. That extends Jansen's scoreless streak to nine innings spanning all of July, during which he's racked up 11 strikeouts while allowing just three hits and no walks. He's at a 3.11 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB through 37.2 innings this season.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Secures 17th save

Jansen worked a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his 17th save of the season in a 6-5 win over the Phillies. The veteran closer didn't strike out a batter, instead relying on his defense to get the job done on just seven pitches (five strikes). Jansen picked up after the All-Star break right where he left off, as he hasn't given up an earned run since June 15 and has a 0.75 ERA and 13:2 K:BB over 12 innings during that impressive stretch. With the Angels likely to be sellers once again at the trade deadline and Jansen a free agent after the season, the 37-year-old is a prime candidate to be shipped to a contender before the end of the month.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Collects third win

Jansen (3-2) picked up the win Friday, giving up a hit in a scoreless ninth inning as the Angels downed the Diamondbacks 6-5. He didn't walk or strike out a batter. The veteran closer got the call in a tie game to handle the top of the ninth, and Jansen got through the top of Arizona's order on just 10 pitches (eight strikes) thanks to a Lourdes Gurriel double-play grounder. Jansen has two wins and a save in his last three appearances, and he hasn't allowed an earned run since June 15, posting a 0.82 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB over his last 11 innings to go along with that pristine ERA. The Angels are still on the fringes of the AL wild-card race, but if they decide to be sellers at the trade deadline, Jansen could fetch a decent return even as a 37-year-old rental.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Notches first save in three weeks

Jansen earned a save against the Rangers on Wednesday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in one scoreless inning. After the Angels rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take an 11-8 lead, Jansen was summoned to close things out in the ninth. He gave up a one-out double but nothing more to nail down his first save since June 18. The save drought wasn't really of Jansen's doing -- he blew just one save during that span and hasn't given up an earned run in any of his past 10 appearances, notching a 13:2 K:BB over 10 innings during that stretch. The veteran closer has been effective in his first season as an Angel, converting 16 of 17 save chances while posting a 3.48 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 35:11 K:BB over 33.2 innings spanning 37 appearances.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Blows save Sunday

Jansen allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one over one inning to take a blown save in Sunday's 7-4 extra-innings loss to Nationals. Jansen hadn't pitched since June 24, which was his return from a pectoral cramp that shortened his appearance the day before. Despite being fresh, the Nationals were able to scrape together the tying run with a Jacob Young RBI single in the ninth inning. This was Jansen's first blown save of the year -- he had converted his first 15 save chances, though he's occasionally struggled in non-save situations. The veteran closer is at a 4.40 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 26:11 K:BB over 28.2 innings this season. Jansen has logged 25-plus saves in every full-length campaign since 2012, so one blown save is not going to be enough to cost him his role.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Back in action Tuesday

Jansen (pectoral) walked one in a scoreless and hitless inning in Tuesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Red Sox. Jansen exited his appearance Monday due to a pectoral cramp, but he downplayed the severity of the injury after that game. That proved to be true, as he was able to return to the mound a day later, and while he needed 21 pitches (16 strikes) to complete his inning, he kept the game tied at 1-1 in the ninth. Jansen has allowed a modest three runs, including two homers, over 10.1 innings in June, adding four saves and a 9:3 K:BB in that span. He's at a 4.23 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB over 27.2 innings this season while converting all 15 of his save chances so far.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Avoids significant injury

Jansen left Monday's game against Boston due to a cramp in his right pectoral, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Jansen is expected to be fine after leaving Monday's game unexpectedly. The club will presumably check on him again in the morning, but Jansen stated in the clubhouse after the game that he'll be available for Tuesday's matchup, per Bollinger.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Exits with injury

Jansen left Monday's game against the Red Sox with an apparent injury, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Jansen's velocity was notably down upon entering the game, and he left with the team trainer after throwing four pitches. The right-hander can be considered day-to-day until the team has more information to share on his availability moving forward.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Locks down 15th save

Jansen earned the save in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Yankees, striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning. After Paul Goldschmidt reached on an error to start the ninth, Jansen managed to set down the next three Yankees to seal the Angels' one-run victory and deliver his second straight scoreless outing. The veteran Jansen is a perfect 15-for-15 in save chances this season despite posting a mediocre 4.56 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP over 25.2 innings.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Gets last out Monday

Jansen recorded the final out in Monday's 7-4 win over the Athletics. Shaun Anderson allowed two runs in a non-save situation in the ninth inning, prompting Jansen's entry with two outs and the bases empty. Jansen was tidy, getting a groundout from Luis Urias on three pitches to end the game. Jansen has pitched much better in save situations than non-save situations this season, in part because he gave up six earned runs May 2 in a non-save situation. He's now at a 4.57 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB while earning 14 saves over 21.2 innings this season.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Gives up homer, secures save

Jansen allowed a run on one hit over one inning to earn the save in Saturday's 8-6 win over the Mariners. Jansen gave up a solo home run to Cal Raleigh in the ninth inning, but the Mariners weren't able to make a rally of it. This was Jansen's second save in as many days, which likely means he won't be available for closing duties if a save chance surfaces Sunday. The veteran closer is up to 14 saves on the year while adding a 4.64 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB across 21.1 innings. He's already given up five homers this season, but the one he allowed Saturday is the first one that's come during a save situation.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Nabs win in ninth Tuesday

Jansen (1-2) walked two and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record the win in a 4-3 extra-inning victory over the Red Sox. Rather than hold Jansen back for a potential save situation, Angels manager Ron Washington sent his closer to the mound in the bottom of the ninth to keep the game tied at 3-3. While pinch runner David Hamilton did get to third base thanks to two stolen bases, Jansen stranded him by striking out Wilyer Abreu and coaxing a groundout from Romy Gonzalez. Reid Detmers then worked the 10th for the save when the Halos pushed a run across in the top of the frame. Since the beginning of May, Jansen has posted a shaky 7.94 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 10:7 K:BB over 11.1 innings, but he hasn't blown any of his six save chances during that time and his job as closer doesn't appear to be in any jeopardy.
