Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller turned in a quality start in Wednesday's series finale against the Pirates but it was not enough to overcome his counterpart -- A.J. Burnett.

The right-hander allowed two runs on six hits over six innings of work in a 5-0 loss.

Miller gave up a leadoff triple to the first batter he faced before Travis Snider followed with an RBI single. That was his only damage over the first five frames. Then in the sixth, Neil Walker drove in a run with a base hit and the 22-year-old was done after throwing 98 pitches, 69 for strikes.

Miller also struck out six and walked one while taking his first loss.

His next start is scheduled for Monday against the Nationals.
