The Marlins have signed third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff and pitcher Jordan Smith to minor league deals, according to Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun Sentinel.
The 30-year-old Kouzmanoff spent all of last season in the Royals’ minor league system. From 2007 to 2010, Kouzmanoff was the starting third baseman for the Padres and Athletics. While his .255/.300/.420 career line is underwhelming, he’s regarded as a strong defensive player. He will receive an invite to big-league camp, according to Rodriguez.
Smith has spent his entire career with the Reds and has pitched 62 innings with the major league club. Last season, Smith pitched at Triple-A. He has a 4.94 ERA and 4.96 FIP in his major league career. The 26-year-old reliever will also be invited to big-league camp.
