  • Taylor Hall LW | CAR

Hurricanes' Taylor Hall: Lights lamp twice in Tuesday's win

Hall scored two goals, one the game-winner, in Tuesday's 6-4 victory over Montreal.

The veteran winger opened the scoring early in the first period before giving Carolina a 5-3 lead midway through the third. They were the first points of the season for Hall in four games, but he's been finding other ways to contribute in the early going, producing eight shots on net, eight hits and eight PIM as well.

  • Hurricanes' Sebastian Aho: Three points in Montreal

Aho scored a power-play goal and added two even-strength assists in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Canadiens.

The star center rounded out his night with three shots on net, two hits and two PIM. Aho has had a blistering start to the season, racking up four goals -- three with the man advantage -- and seven points in four games. He's also been surprisingly chippy, collecting at least one minor penalty in each contest for 10 PIM, but that's unlikely to last as his career high is just 46 PIM.

  • Hurricanes' Brandon Bussi: Collects first win of season

Bussi made 16 saves in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Canadiens.

Montreal built a 3-2 lead in a wild first period, but Bussi settled down the rest of the way while Carolina's offense kept rolling. It was the first win in three starts this season for the 28-year-old netminder, who has a somewhat shaky 3.24 GAA in the early going while giving up 10 goals on 67 shots. Bussi is still the clear No. 1 between the pipes for the defending Stanley Cup champs, but Pyotr Kochetkov could get the nod at home Thursday against the Canucks.

  • Juuse Saros G | NSH

Predators' Juuse Saros: Tough loss in Toronto

Saros made 32 saves in a 5-4 overtime loss to Toronto on Tuesday.

The Preds staked him a 3-0 lead and then the team allowed the Leafs to claw its way back for the home win. The 31-year-old Saros is hoping to rebound after two difficult seasons where he went 48-53-14 and delivered below league-average GAA and save percentages. The Preds are in a retool right now, and oddmakers have the team finishing outside the playoffs. Saros has enough talent to change that by himself, but the demons of his last two seasons will need to be exorcised first.

  • Nils Hoglander LW | NSH

Predators' Nils Hoglander: Three goals in last two games

Hoglander scored twice Tuesday in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs.

Hoglander is really clicking with Filip Forsberg and Matthew Wood on the Preds' second line, a gig that could finally allow him to show off his offensive upside. His career-best to this point came in 2023-24 when he scored 24 goals and added 12 assists in 80 games in Vancouver. Hoglander has three goals in his last two games.

  • Predators' Steven Stamkos: Part of exclusive NHL club

Stamkos scored twice in a 5-4 overtime loss to Toronto on Tuesday.

Stamkos became the third active player to score 100 game-opening goals. Alex Ovechkin (154) and Sidney Crosby (127). lead that list. Stammer has 627 career goals, which puts him in sole possession of 17th all-time. He is just 13 from tying Dave Andreychuk for 16th.

  • Maple Leafs' Anthony Stolarz: Two starts, two wins

Stolarz made 21 saves Tuesday in a 5-4 overtime victory over the Predators.

Stolarz and Sergei Bobrovsky have split the Leafs games so far, and the former has had the better go of it. While he has allowed five goals in two games, Stolarz has won both his starts (Bob is still looking for his first), and he sports a 2.44 GAA and .904 save percentage. Try to marry these two on your fantasy roster. The Leafs will preserve Bobrovsky for a potential shot at the postseason, so Stolarz will get a lot of starts.

  • Maple Leafs' William Nylander: Three points in OT win

Nylander had a goal and two assists in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime win over Nashville.

He also had a goal disallowed in the third period. Nylander has three goals, three assists and nine shots in four games. He sits seventh in the NHL in scoring. The talented forward is looking for his first 100-point campaign of his career, and he has looked sharp this season.

  • Gavin McKenna LW | TOR

Maple Leafs' Gavin McKenna: First NHL goal and assist

McKenna scored his first NHL goal and got his first assist in a 5-4 overtime win over the Predators on Tuesday.

McKenna became the youngest Maple Leafs player at the time of his first point (18 years, 290 days) since Drake Berehowsky (18 years, 280 days) on Oct. 10, 1990. McKenna's goal was a beauty -- he snapped an absolute rocket in the top corner past Juuse Saros at 14:31 of the second period. And he was named the game's first star in front of a capacity crowd (18,792). McKenna has a bright future in front of him.

  • Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews: Massive four-point game including winner

Matthews scored a goal and added three assists in a 5-4 overtime win over the Predators.

His goal came with 14 seconds left to deliver the win. Matthews earned the praise of new head coach Jim Hiller after the game: "I thought he's been really good our whole camp, he's been working on every puck, but tonight for me, he was a little bit different tonight. From just a pure hockey perspective, to appreciate his game tonight, it was really a special night for him. I'm not even talking about the goal, just his game start to finish." Matthews is looking to rebound from an injury-related decline in output last season. He had 27 goals and 53 points in 60 games. So far, so good.
