  • Dalvin Cook RB | DAL

Jets' Dalvin Cook: Healthy heading into Week 1

Cook (shoulder) was a full participant in practice Tuesday and declared himself healthy ahead of the Jets' Sept. 11 regular-season opener against the Bills, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Cook's ongoing recovery from February shoulder surgery coupled with a trip to Florida for the birth of his child delayed his practice debut with the Jets, but he told the media after Tuesday's practice that he did "everything" and is fully healthy heading into the season. Breece Hall (knee) has also been making progress in his recovery, but Cook is expected to get more touches than Hall in the season opener while the Jets ease the second-year back into game action as he returns from a torn ACL. Both running backs are expected to be key contributors for the team's new-look offense in 2023.

  • Travis Dye RB | NYJ

    Travis Dye: Waived by Jets

The Jets waived Dye on Tuesday, Randy Lange of the Jets' official site reports.

Dye joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent in early May but was unable to carve out a spot on the 53-man roster. It's possible he lands on a practice squad in 2023.

  • Myles Gaskin RB | SEA

Vikings' Myles Gaskin: Links up with Minnesota

Gaskin agreed to a contact with the Vikings on Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Cut by Miami a day earlier, Gaskin lands on his feet with a team that has minimal experience in the backfield behind Alexander Mattison. The Vikings also kept Ty Chandler and Kene Nwangwu (undisclosed) on their initial 53-man roster, but the latter's presence may be about his special teams prowess than what he can contribute as a running back. Gaskin started 17 of his 27 games for Miami between 2020 and 2021, averaging a 158-598-3 rushing line (3.8 yards per carry) and 45-311-3 receiving line (5.7 yards per target) over that two-season stretch.

  • Lew Nichols RB | PIT

Lew Nichols: Waived with injury designation

The Packers waived/injured Nichols (shoulder) on Tuesday, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.

Nichols was nagged by a shoulder injury for much of camp, which limited his chances at making the final roster. He will now likely revert to the Packers' injured reserve and face the possibility of missing the entire season, assuming he clears waivers.

  • Evan Hull RB | ARI

Colts' Evan Hull: Looks set to be part of RB mix

Hull looks set to be in the backfield mix for Week 1 with Jonathan Taylor (ankle) placed on the reserve/PUP list, Dianna Russini and James Boyd of The Athletic report.

How playing time in the Indy backfield will be divided up is unclear with Taylor out at least four weeks, but Hull looks set to get significant snaps. The 2023 fifth-round pick got the start in the preseason opener but was used behind Deon Jackson in the final two preseason games. Zack Moss could also return from a broken arm by Week 1 and would be the likely starter if he's healthy, although all three backs could share playing time in a committee. It's even possible that Hull could be the lead back, though his best path to snaps will come on third downs and in passing situations given his receiving ability.

  • Zack Moss RB | CIN

Colts' Zack Moss: Could return Week 1

Moss could return from a broken arm by Week 1 and would be the likely starter if healthy with Jonathan Taylor (ankle) out at least four weeks while on the reserve/PUP list, Dianna Russini and James Boyd of The Athletic report.

Moss underwent surgery on a broken arm Aug. 1 and was expected to be sidelined four-to-six weeks. Not much has been reported about his status since, but it sounds like he has a chance to play in the regular-season opener. If so, he'd likely be the starter but may be eased into action. Deon Jackson would be the next man up, with rookie Evan Hull also in the mix. It's also possible the three share snaps in a committee until Taylor returns or the Colts sign another veteran.

  • Deon Jackson RB | DET

Colts' Deon Jackson: Could start with Taylor on PUP

Jackson appears to be the likely starting running back for the Colts with Jonathan Taylor (ankle) placed on the reserve/PUP list, though Zack Moss could return from a broken arm by Week 1, Dianna Russini and James Boyd of The Athletic report.

Indy's running back situation without Taylor is unsettled heading into a Week 1 matchup against Jacksonville. Jackson got the start in two of three preseason games (including the preseason finale) but could share playing time with rookie Evan Hull. Moss also sounds like the clear lead running back with Taylor out if he's able to return. The Colts could also claim a veteran on waivers and cloud the situation even further. Either way, there's a decent chance Jackson gets a significant amount of snaps in the backfield early in the season.

  • Jordan Mims RB | MIN

Jordan Mims: Does not make cut

Mims was waived by the Bills on Monday, Alec White of the team's official website reports.

Mims was competing for the No. 3 running back role with Latavius Murray behind James Cook and Damien Harris. He ultimately came up short, but the undrafted free agent will be a likely candidate to be offered a practice squad role with the team.

  • Tyler Hoosman RB | LAC

    Tyler Hoosman: Dropped by Chargers

The Chargers waived Hoosman on Tuesday.

Hoosman was behind a plethora of running backs on the Chargers' depth chart, so this decision is not too surprising. He signed with the team as an undrafted free agent following the draft. The North Dakota product will now need to look for a new opportunity if the Chagers do not end up offering him a spot on their practice squad.

  • Qadree Ollison RB | PIT

    Qadree Ollison: Released by Jacksonville

The Jaguars released Ollison on Tuesday.

Ollison spent the first three years of his career in Atlanta before playing for the Cowboys last year. He's had a minimal impact to begin his NFL career and was unable to land a spot on the Jaguars' 53-man roster ahead of the 2023 campaign. The 2019 fifth-rounder will now attempt to find an opportunity elsewhere.
