Packers' Christian Watson: Believed to have high-ankle sprain

Watson (ankle) is believed to have sustained a high-ankle sprain during Sunday's 31-29 loss to the Vikings and is a candidate for injured reserve, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

The Packers likely will have Watson undergo further tests Monday to confirm the severity of his injury. The 2022 second-round pick missed a combined 10 games in 2023 due to recurring hamstring injuries and dedicated the offseason to fixing those underlying issues, but he had to be carted off the field Sunday after his legs got tangled up under defender Kamu Grugier-Hill. It's at least encouraging that Watson seems to have avoided a fracture or another potentially season-ending injury. Dontayvion Wicks will step into a starting role alongside Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs during Watson's expected absence, while Bo Melton and Malik Heath also will be called upon to handle increased roles.
