The Bills signed Williams to their practice squad Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Williams was among the more surprising cuts over the past weekend, as the expectation was that he'd enter the season as the top understudy to starting back LeSean McCoy. Instead, Buffalo elected to proceed with Mike Tolbert, Joe Banyard and Taiwan Jones as their depth options in the backfield, but the team will still have ample opportunity to oversee Williams' development now that the 2016 fifth-round pick will have a spot on the practice squad. In order to secure Williams' services, however, the Bills had to shell out a $510,000 contract, a hefty sum for a player not on the 53-man roster.
