Giants' Saquon Barkley: May not face lengthy absence

Barkley (ankle) is scheduled for further testing Monday, with the Giants optimistic he'll only be out for a couple weeks, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports

Barkley was carted off to the locker room after rolling his left ankle on a defender's foot in the first half of Sunday's 44-20 loss to the Cowboys. He was ruled out for the rest of the game shortly thereafter, and reporters later spotted him with crutches and a walking boot after the contest. However, while the initial signs weren't great, multiple reports suggest Barkley escaped with a low-ankle sprain. Depending on how Monday's testing goes, Barkley may even avoid landing on injured reserve and have a shot to return within the next few weeks. In the short term, Devontae Booker and Gary Brightwell figure to replace Barkley for Week 6 against the Rams, at the very least.
