New York placed Tanney on the active/non-football illness Tuesday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
Tanney still counts against New York's offseason roster for the time being. He'll be eligible to return to practice upon gaining medical clearance. He could have the opportunity to compete with Colt McCoy and Cooper Rush for the Giants' backup gig when healthy.
