Harris was released by the 49ers on Saturday.
With the 49ers' tight end corps currently dinged up in advance of Week 4, the team evidently needed Harris' roster spot in order to promote reserve TE Je'Ron Hamm from the practice squad. It's true Harris was buried on the depth chart during his stay in San Francisco, but it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility for him to resurface on another roster before season's end.
