Commanders' Brian Robinson: Returning to practice

The Commanders designated Robinson (knee) for return to practice Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Washington will now have a 21-day window to evaluate Robinson in practice, but head coach Ron Rivera has already expressed optimism about the rookie's chances of making his NFL debut Sunday versus Tennessee. Before he sustained gunshot wounds to his right leg and required surgery after he was the victim of an apparent attempted robbery Aug. 28, Robinson appeared positioned to begin the season as the Commanders' lead option on the ground. If he's active this week, Robinson might handle only a light role behind Antonio Gibson and pass-catching specialist J.D. McKissic, but the 23-year-old should see his opportunities increase in the games to come.
