49ers' Jeff Wilson: Returning to practice soon

The 49ers are expected to open the practice window for Wilson (knee) this week, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Wilson has resided on the PUP list since the start of training camp due to May surgery to repair a torn meniscus. Such a listing required him to spend at least the first six contests of the season on the sideline, but he wasn't expected to be ready for game action until midseason in any case. If the 49ers designate Wilson to return in the coming days, he'll have a three-week window in which to prove the health of his knee. The team is down Raheem Mostert for the season with chipped cartilage in his left knee, leaving Elijah Mitchell (ribs), JaMycal Hasty, Trey Sermon and Trenton Cannon as the running backs on San Francisco's active roster.
