Spence signed a one-year contract with the 49ers on Monday.
Spence will take the roster spot vacated by fellow defensive lineman Maurice Hurst (biceps), who was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. If Spence sees any regular-season action with San Francisco, it would be the eighth team for which he has played.
