Burdi was optioned to the White Sox's alternate training site Tuesday.
Burdi made his big-league debut in early August but did not find much success in his first 7.1 career innings, allowing nine earned runs while struggling to a 1.91 WHIP. He'll make way for Gio Gonzalez (groin), who returned from the injured list in a corresponding move.
