The White Sox plan to send Teel (ankle) to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Teel was sent to the injured list July 21 due to a left high-ankle sprain but has progressing in his recovery faster than anticipated. After Teel was able to run the bases a couple of times this weekend without issue, the White Sox have cleared him for the final step of his rehab program. The White Sox haven't outlined how long Teel's rehab assignment will last, but as soon as he proves he can catch a full nine-inning game, he'll likely return to the big-league roster. Chicago has been getting by with a timeshare of Drew Romo and Jake Rogers behind the plate of late, but Teel will take over as the clear No. 1 backstop once he's activated from the 10-day injured list.
