Twins' Royce Lewis: Won't play outfield this season
Lewis (knee), who is starting at third base and batting fifth in his season debut Monday in Houston, won't play the outfield this season, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Lewis was playing center field exactly one year ago when he tore the ACL in his right knee for the second time in his career. Though he experienced no complications in his recovery and recently wrapped up a productive 10-game minor-league rehab assignment before being activated from the 60-day injured list earlier Monday, the Twins won't take any chances with his health by having him play the outfield, at least in 2023. Lewis saw action at third base and shortstop during his rehab assignment but is expected to see the bulk of his opportunities at the former position while Carlos Correa is healthy.
