Royals pitcher Tim Collins will join Triple-A Omaha Friday to begin his rehab assignment, MLB.com reports.

"He's going to need at least two [appearances] and we'll go from there," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "As soon as he's throwing the ball good again . … But we need to see that, we need to check his arm and make sure it's strong and durable and ready to go. We need to make sure he's commanding his fastball, his curveball and his changeup."

Collins pitched in just two games this season before going on the disabled list with a flexor strain.
