Carpenter is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
After starting in each of the Tigers' last nine games, the left-handed-hitting Carpenter will retreat to the bench while the Mets send southpaw Sean Manaea to the hill for the series opener. Carpenter is slashing just .196/.222/.353 over 54 plate appearances versus lefties this season.
