The Tigers acquired Mayfield and left-hander Jackson Wolf from the Padres on Monday in exchange for right-hander Casey Mize and infielder Gage Workman, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Mayfield, 21, sits in the low-90s with his fastball, but the rest of his arsenal is mid-rotation caliber, headlined by a plus changeup. The 6-foot-4 southpaw posted a 3.54 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 62 strikeouts in 53.1 innings across 15 starts at High-A Fort Wayne this season.
