Castro was removed from Wednesday's game at Cleveland due to left thumb soreness, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Castro went 0-for-2 before being replaced in the field during the fifth inning. The Tigers have a scheduled day off Thursday, so the 28-year-old will have a full day to recover ahead of Friday's series opener against the Angels.
