The Cubs released Kingery on July 19.
Kingery won a spot on the Cubs' Opening Day squad coming out of spring training but logged just four plate appearances and played in only eight games before being cast off the 40-man roster April 24. After clearing waivers, Kingery reported to Triple-A Iowa and slashed just .200/.277/.304 with three home runs and three stolen bases over 142 plate appearances. Kingery turned 32 years old in April and could be running out of chances in affiliated ball.
