Santana was scratched from Tuesday's lineup against the Cardinals for undisclosed reasons.
Santana was initially penciled in to start at first base and bat cleanup, but he was absent from the revised lineup the Royals released closer to first pitch. Ryan O'Hearn will step into the starting nine in Santana's place.
