The Rockies designated Crim for assignment Wednesday.
The transaction frees up a 40-man roster spot for right-hander Keegan Thompson, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Albuquerque. Crim has slashed .265/.339/.449 with seven home runs in 36 games this season with Albuquerque. As a 28-year-old with limited defensive flexibility, Crim stands a good chance of going unclaimed off waivers. If that happens, Crim could stick around in the organization.
