The Reds transferred Steer (wrist) to the 60-day injured list Friday.
The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Oswaldo Cabrera, who was claimed off waivers. Steer has been ramping up his activities recently as he works his way back from a partial tear of the tendon sheath in his wrist. He will be eligible for activation Sept. 25, but there's a chance Steer's season is over.
