The Red Sox optioned Chavis to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
Boston was in need of an extra arm out of the bullpen after starter Eduardo Rodriguez was able to give Boston only four innings in Tuesday's 10-8 win over Atlanta, so Chavis will cede his spot on the active roster to reliever Yacksel Rios. Chavis didn't appear off the bench for Boston during his two-day stint with the club.
