Choi isn't starting Thursday against the Mariners due to a slightly hyperextended left elbow, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Manager Kevin Cash said prior to Thursday's matchup that Choi could be available if needed, but the team will try to stay away from him. The 30-year-old isn't expected to require an IL stint, but Yandy Diaz will shift to first base while Taylor Walls starts at the hot corner Thursday.
