The Rangers designated Edwards for assignment Friday.
Edwards will surrender his spot on the 40-man roster to make room for Tyler Mahle (shoulder), who was activated from the 60-day IL on Friday. Edwards, 34, has given up three earned runs in six MLB innings this season and carries a 5.31 ERA through 39 frames at Triple-A Round Rock.
