McCutchen is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.
With the Pirates wrapping up their series in San Diego with a day game after a night game, McCutchen will receive some routine maintenance. The 37-year-old has been in the midst of a heater to begin August, slashing .370/.485/.741 with three home runs, nine RBI and six runs over eight games.
