Medina was claimed off waivers by the Pirates on Wednesday.
Medina was designated for assignment by the Phillies in early December just ahead of the lockout, and he's now been claimed off waivers over three months later. The 25-year-old allowed three earned runs over 7.2 big-league frames in 2021 and spent most of the year at Triple-A, where he had a 5.05 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 55:26 K:BB over 67.2 innings (17 starts).
