Neris earned his first win of the season with two scoreless innings of relief Sunday against the Nationals. He struck out one and did not allow a hit or a walk.
Neris got five of his outs on his splitter, a pitch manager Pete Mackanin has asked him to use more frequently. Since his blow-up against the Dodgers a little more than a week ago, Neris has thrown his splitter 30 times out of 43 pitches and has not allowed a run in four innings. He's likely shown enough improvement that he should be called on the next time the Phillies generate a save chance.
