Avila opted out of his minor-league contract with the Guardians on Wednesday and is now a free agent, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Avila has been utilized primarily as a starting pitcher in 2026 at Triple-A Columbus, turning in a 7.50 ERA and 49:32 K:BB over 60 innings. With no promotion on the horizon, he's elected to seek employment in a new organization. Avila hasn't seen action in the majors since 2024, having spent the 2025 campaign in Japan.
