The Padres acquired Perez from the Pirates on Tuesday in exchange for left-hander Ronaldys Jimenez, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Perez will claim the fifth spot in San Diego's rotation, as the team had been using a four-man setup prior to Tuesday's trade deadline. The 33-year-old southpaw has struggled mightily since returning from the injured list in late June, putting up a 6.31 ERA and 1.87 WHIP across 25.2 innings.
