The Orioles optioned Wells to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.
Wells' demotion clears a spot on the 28-man active roster for Marcos Diplan, whose contract was selected from Norfolk in a corresponding move. The addition of Diplan gives the Orioles another fresh arm out of the bullpen after Wells was needed to cover two innings out of the bullpen in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Yankees.
