Mets' Edwin Diaz: Needs assist for 23rd save

Diaz gave up two hits in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his 23rd save of the season in a 2-1 win over Atlanta.

The right-hander very nearly blew his fifth save of the season and fourth in July instead, but after a leadoff double by Abraham Almonte, Michael Conforto threw out Almonte at the plate as he attempted to score on a one-out single. Diaz failed to fan a batter in an appearance for the first time since June 29, and on the season, he sports a 3.89 ERA and 61:17 K:BB through 41.2 innings.
