Diaz (5-4) picked up the win in Friday's 6-2 extra-inning victory over the Nationals, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk in the ninth inning. He struck out two.
The Mets' closer was called upon to protect a 2-0 lead but instead blew his fifth save of the season, serving up a leadoff blast to Juan Soto before walking Ryan Zimmerman with one out and getting tagged for an RBI double by Riley Adams. Fortunately for Diaz, the Mets immediately responded with four runs in the top of the 10th. The blown save was his first since July 19 and left him 28-for-33 in converting save chances on the year, to go along with a 3.62 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 79:20 K:BB through 54.2 innings.
