Alvarez has been designated for assignment by the Mets.

The move was made to clear a 40-man roster spot for Ty Kelly. If he clears waivers, Alvarez could stick in the Mets' organization at Triple-A, but he's posted a 9.98 ERA and 2.12 WHIP through 17 appearances at Las Vegas in 2016.
