Montero was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Friday.
Montero had struggled to limit the opposition recently, as he posted a 13.09 ERA and 2.64 WHIP in 11 innings across his last eight relief appearances. He'll now be removed from the 40-man roster as right-hander Casey Sadler was reinstated from the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.
