Manny Machado avoids ACL, MCL tear

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado has been diagnosed with a torn medial patella tendon ligament, the Baltimore Sun reports. He has managed to avoid damage to his ACL and MCL, making the diagnosis a positive one.

Machado will need six-to-eight weeks before the can begin light running. One source estimates that there's a 90 percent chance Machado will not need surgery to repair the injury, the Sun reports.

Machado's 2013 season ends with a .283/.314/.432 line, 14 home runs, 71 RBI and six stolen bases in a league-leading 667 at-bats. He also ranks first in the AL with 51 doubles, seven more than second place.
