The Mets released Gerber on Sunday.
After designating Gerber for assignment Sunday, the Mets opted to grant him his release rather than waiting for him to first clear waivers. Prior to being demoted to Triple-A Syracuse on July 5, the 29-year-old righty made seven appearances out of the New York bullpen this season, giving up four earned runs on six hits and four walks over 8.1 innings in seven appearances.
