Athletics starter Jesse Chavez made it two poor outings in a row Wednesday in Detroit. The result was the lowering of his record to 6-5.
Chavez was handed a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but he was trailing by the fourth and collapsed in the sixth with two walks that scored to give him five earned runs allowed in five innings. He gave up eight hits while walking four and fanning five. He has walked 11 in his last 17 innings pitched.
He will try to turn his fortunes around Monday against San Francisco.
