Ruggiano was designated for assignment on Friday, Alec Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
With the promotion of Austin Slater, the Giants needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, and Ruggiano was the casualty. He hit .217/.238/.333 with a 17:1 K:BB in 60 at-bats prior to the demotion.
