The Giants designated Hill for assignment Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Jerar Encarnacion. Hill went 3-for-12 at the plate during his week with the big club.
