Rays third baseman Evan Longoria homered in the first inning off Toronto starter Todd Redmond as Tampa Bay took on the Blue Jays Sunday. Longoria hit his 24th home run of the season.
The No. 3 hitter went deep for a solo shot with two outs in the first inning. Longoria added a double in the game and finished 2 for 3 with a walk and his 65th run driven in. Longoria is batting .272 on the season.
The 27-year-old has gone 8 for 18 in his last five games with four doubles, two homers and four RBI. Longoria has 10 extra-base hits in his last 11 games after he had just seven over his previous 33.
