Rodney retired both of the batters he faced in the ninth inning to notch his eighth save of the season in Friday's 6-3 win over the Rockies.
The Diamondbacks owned a four-run lead heading into the ninth, but after long reliever Archie Bradley loaded the bases with one out before being pulled, Rodney was summoned into the game. After allowing a run-scoring groundout, Rodney induced a towering pop fly from Charlie Blackmon to extinguish the Rockies threat with runners on second and third. It was an incredible show of faith from manager Torey Lovullo to turn to the struggling Rodney in a harsh environment like Coors Field, but the veteran probably rebuilt a little job security with this performance. That being said, with Rodney still maintaining a 10.80 ERA and 1.97 WHIP over 11.2 innings this season, he clearly remains a lower-tier closing option.
