Thompson was placed on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation Tuesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Thompson's placement on the injured list doesn't come as a surprise after manager David Ross said Tuesday that the right-hander will be shut down for the final week of the season. The 26-year-old made 32 appearances (six starts) during his first major-league season in 2021, posting a 3.38 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 53.1 innings.
