The Cubs designated Berti for assignment Tuesday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The Cubs needed to clear 40-man roster spots ahead of activating both Miguel Amaya (oblique) and Javier Assad (oblique) from the 60-day IL on Tuesday. Berti has slashed .210/.262/.230 with two doubles, two RBI, 12 runs scored, 11 stolen bases and a 5:22 BB:K across 107 plate appearances this season.
