Burleson is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.
It's the first time since June 17 that Burleson has found his name missing from the Cardinals' lineup card. St. Louis will use Tommy Pham, Michael Siani and Lars Nootbaar in the outfield while Willson Contreras serves as the designated hitter against Chicago southpaw Shota Imanaga.
