Fried (1-0) emerged victorious in his first major-league start after holding the Cubs to one run on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts over five innings Sunday.
Fried's lone run allowed came on a second-inning homer by Ian Happ. The 23-year-old lefty had four appearances out of the bullpen under his belt, but this was his finest performance yet. He may not get another look in the rotation despite this productive outing.
