Berrios was traded from the Twins to the Blue Jays in exchange for Austin Martin and Simeon Woods Richardson on Friday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
The Blue Jays get the best remaining available starter to help them down the stretch in the very competitive AL East. He'll also be under contract through the end of next season. Berrios has been a step below the league's best pitchers throughout his career, but he's still a very useful arm, posting a 3.76 ERA over the last five years and a 3.48 mark this season. He's not an elite strikeout weapon, but his 25.7 percent strikeout rate this season represents a career high. The trade should help the righty somewhat in terms of wins, as he'll be supported by a loaded Blue Jays lineup, though he'll go from pitching in one of the league's weakest divisions to one of its strongest.
