The Athletics recalled Gelof from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.

Infielder Luis Urias was designated for assignment in a corresponding move, clearing the way for Gelof to rejoin the Athletics for the first time in the second half. Gelof spent the first part of the season on the injured list while recovering from a procedure on his right wrist from March, then was set back after sustaining a rib injury while on a rehab assignment in May. Upon being activated in early July, Gelof went just 2-for-25 with 13 strikeouts in eight games before being demoted to Triple-A, where he's produced a .259/.342/.556 slash line with 11 home runs and nine stolen bases in 33 games. Gelof could get some starts at second base as he rejoins the big club, though Darell Hernaiz is likely viewed as the Athletics' primary option at that position.
